Check your voter registration

Make sure you’re registration is accurate and up to date!

FIND YOUR REGISTRATION

All North Carolina voters should review their voter registration before every election. Inaccurate or out-of-date information on your voter registration can create serious problems at the polls — it may even mean your vote won’t count.

While you’re at it, you can also use the Voter Search tool to find your assigned Election Day polling place and review your sample ballot!

How to review your voter registration

  1. Open the Voter Search tool

Open the Voter Search tool on the website of the NC State Board of Elections.

  2. Enter your info

Pro tip! Enter only your first and last name into the form. Entering more information can make it harder to find your registration.

  3. Can’t find your registration?

If you use a nickname, have ever changed your name, or have a hyphenated last name, try searching for different versions of your name. If you still can’t find your registration, you can contact your county board of elections for help, or you can simply re-register (see last step).

  4. Check your address

An incorrect address could cause you to be turned away at your polling place. If your address is incorrect, you need to update your registration (see last step).

  5. Check your status

If your status is inactive, you can still vote!

  6. Check your party affiliation

For primary elections, make sure your party affiliation is correct. If it’s not, you may not be able to vote using your party’s ballot. Your party affiliation does not matter for general elections.

  7. While you’re at it

Use the Voter Search tool to review your sample ballot and find your assigned polling place for Election Day.

  8. Need to update your registration?

Simply re-register — online, on paper or at an event — using your correct and up-to-date information.
