YCV's 2024 Winter Voting Checklist!

YCV's Winter Voting Checklist

Brrr, it’s cold outside! YCV will be taking a break from December 21, 2024 to January 5, 2025 (reopening January 6, 2025) to celebrate the holidays with our nearest and dearest. As you spend time with your favorite people this holiday season, here are a few ways you can stay engaged and support democracy:

Make a donation to YCV!

You Can Vote will be back at it next year, registering, educating, and empowering voters ahead of the 2025 municipal and 2026 primary elections. Your contributions support our work in schools, on college campuses, and in communities to ensure that voters are ready and able to cast their ballots in EVERY election. Make a donation today at youcanvote.org/donate, or email development@youcanvote.org to learn how to make a gift of stock or IRA contribution.

Get to know your new legislators!

Newly elected state senators and representatives will be sworn in on January 1, 2025. Do you know who’s representing your district?

  1. Use the address search function at https://www.ncleg.gov/FindYourLegislators to figure out what districts you live in.

  2. Visit the NCSBE election results dashboard at https://er.ncsbe.gov/ to see who won in your districts.

Contact your congress person and ask them to support the John R. Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act!

As the Brennan Center writes in their summary of this important bill, it “would modernize and revitalize the Voting Rights Act of 1965. The John Lewis Act would strengthen the law, moving us closer to ending discrimination in voting and guaranteeing equal access to the ballot.” Click here to find your congressperson and how to contact them: https://www.house.gov/representatives/find-your-representative.

attend local government meetings

Pledge to attend at least one local meeting this spring!

Each year, your county commission decides how much funding for public schools, affordable housing, public transit, your local board of elections, and more. Attend a county commission or school board meeting this spring to learn how this process works and advocate for increased funding for the public services that matter most to you!
